"The Change" is the name of this piece. It references the mutability of all things in our lives. Transformation defines living. Crystalline rule bound gives way to organic caprice; my son grows taller than I am. The fallen leaf turns to fungus and then back into tree food. Ask any woman in her forties what "The Change" means. "The Change" in your pocket will buy you nothing. "The Change" in your physique will leave you with all you have. The surface of the piece is an amalgam of chaos and order and the flux that bends one into the other. This panel references earlier works that are a dense chaos of brushwork, overlays of perspective lifting off the surface or receding away from the viewer and joins them to the air filled, aerial flights of space and lightness. Feathers and rocks, air and bounded grounds. this makes sense and that does not and where are we in the midst to comprehend? You can count on "The Change"- the only thing that doesn't change is the fact of mutability.
